Posted by Ned (Toronto, Canada) on 16 December 2007 in Animal & Insect.
He was about one and a half years and he was a great hamster.
The ground is frozen and I used an ax to make he a hole. He is buried in a carved wooden box with a dog biscuit and one of my wisdom teeth.
After I buried him I covered his grave with lots of the heaviest rocks I could find.
Maybe I will get another hamster but probably not.
I will not object to you carving a cenotaph for Boog wherever you live.
I thought he escaped. Then I found him dead buried under his bedding. I hope it was age and that he was not sick.
EDITED Dec 25 to add: I was looking over things and realized that people who saw this picture probably could not tell that Booger is very much alive in this photo. I'm just holding him in a funny way.
Hamsters have rather baggy skin, if you pick one up by the scruff of their necks they can still turn around and bite you unless you pull their skin a bit tight.
In this photo he is laying on his back grooming his nose while his body is cradled in my fingers and his skin is being pushed forward.
I did not take any pictures of him when I discovered he had died.
Thanks to everyone who has enjoyed his pictures.
In case anyone didn't know, Booger was named after a character from the "Revenge of the Nerds" movies. Dudley "Booger" Dawson was his full name.
Also he probably had a shorter then average life span due to his disability. Stress is the enemy of any living thing and Booger was practically 'high on stress'. I think to a certain extent that shows in the photos of him.
It was difficult to decide what image to use that day. instead of dwelling on it I just decided to open a folder (I am very disorganized) and use the first clear shot of him I saw.
There is a vast library of Boog pictures and he will be featured again for sure. It will just be tougher to write captions for me.
Thanks everyone.
Our home computer is broken and I thusly can't post from archived series. Everything in mid June 2008 onwards is done day by day. We asked for help from someone who has pictures of the hams so we'll see if any cute older pictures show up from their archive. I am trying to stay ahead a few days but I think the work obviously suffers. Still cute, just not quite so much. The hams don't know about the computer thing, it is ungood to upset Skuzzballer.

what a story, and remembrance and euology for booger. he obviously was loved very much. and he went back to nature in such a special way. has a web page talking about him... i don't think too many hamsters have had that experience! i'm sorry for your loss.

@Heidi: Thank you.
This shot shows how much he was loved; he was such a little precious creature! I had a hamster once too; he was so adorable and sweet and he loved sitting in my palm and eating little yogurt treats... I am sure he has a wonderful, happy life; the shots are a proof of that. May his little soul rest in peace...
