I was a bit disappointed to find out that my guys think that bathing in dust is stupid after hearing that other hams enjoy it. They keep themselves very clean on their own, I just wanted some cute pictures.
I have seen people who have larger rodents construct "digging boxes" for their animals.
Has anyone tried this with their hamsters? Let me know how it turned out please.
And can a ham who has no use of their hind legs make a proper tunnel? Would I need to fashion a snorkel for Booger?

My gerbils lived in a big old indoor brick planter which was filled with dirt that was quite well packed. They made an elaborate series of tunnels and rarely surfaced. It was great for them but not for me. SO there is a big down side to that. Unless you have a set up like the old ant farms you will rarely see the guys and they will be hard to capture. I do not think Booger would do well with tunneling as moving the dirt requires both sets of legs. Bottom line - I don't recommend it.
