He is a cute little guy. I did not take this photo however. The wonderful Mia (who sometimes comments on my pictures even though she has seen them all) took this picture. And probably a few more young Booger pictures which I want to share.
Not much to say about this because the scale is not shown, but at this stage of his life Booger could easily have fit comfortably into a tablespoon. For those of you who do not make sense if this measure a tablespoon is 15 ml.
He had not yet suffered his tragic and demoralizing paralysis.

If you are interested in keeping hamsters the Hamtastic boys would like you to know that aspen bedding sticks to their fur much more then pine bedding did. But I was advised not to use pine. So try to find something your hams like. And then let me know what it is. Please.

we used this stuff called carefresh. it's recycled something-or-other, and our hams liked it. it doesn't have the dust and such that's supposed to be a problem with pine. one of becci's old hamsters was allergic to pine.

nika: My hamsters get vitamins in their drinking water.
Booger can't move his back legs. This has been since he was about 4 weeks old. I am forced to assume he hurt himself doing something dangerous. One of the things he tries/likes to do when he is out of his house is to jump off of things.

oh man.. if I saw him it would just tear my heart out! One of our cats just had to be rushed to the vet.. looks like she might have broken one of her back legs.

I would like to assure everyone that even without his back legs Booger doesn't really have any mobility issues. He still runs on his wheel and he can climb to the top of his cage easily. He is a "normal" hamster in pretty much everything he does. He even jumps around with his front legs. His story may sound sad but it is far from tragic. I freaked out about it more then he did.
He has some sort of spinal injury, when it happened I was frantic. I called all sorts of vets only to find out that there wasn't much to do aside from take away his exercise wheel and hope he gets better. The only scary thing that I was warned about is that he might chew his back legs off, thankfully he has not done that.
A funny thing about this is that occasionally it will appear as though he is trying to hide or take cover or something. He doesn't ever realize that his bottom half is exposed when he "hides".
He never healed and he has his wheel back. And his favourite house accessories seem to be the boxes from my inhalers, they are the perfect size for him.

What a cute little invalid. Not that he's in-VALID, but you catch my drift. I think it's funny when he gets caught on his haunches and has to scurry frantically to break free. silly guy...
